The man who dug his own grave.

The man who dug his own grave. This life size sculpture of a man holding a pickaxe can be found at the entrance of the Montjuic cemetery of Barcelona. Its a homage to the grave diggers and the workers who started the construction of the cemetery. It is a local legend that the man portrayed in the statue died due to his own work. While digging a grave, he accidentally hit his back with the axe and there he was burried in the same grave he was digging.

The Kiss of Death, or locally known as El Beso de la Muerte, is the highlight of the Poblenou Cemetery in Barcelona (El Cementerio de Poblenou in spanish, Cementiri de Poblenou in catalan). The cemetery is host to the oldest tombs in Barcelona as it is the oldest cemetery in the city.

Did you know that this crypt was made by Martinez Fortuny in 1910 for the family Urrutia? It is a neo-classical type and is made of marble and white rocks. This angel is also seen in the crypt of the family Les Corts. There are two of these angel sculptures at the Montjuic cemetery.
Another trivia, this was the crypt that Anne Rice used for the book cover of one of her vampire chronicle books, The Sanctuary (El Santuario in spanish).
