About me

Retired at 55 to do my own thing. Got fed up (do-aholic) so built a luxury guesthouse in our garden in the center of York. Fantastic success – not least because it fullfills my passions, travel – The World now comes to us, food – we operate as a ‘Breakfast Restaurant for Residents’. All food is sourced from Yorkshire’s finest producers. Enjoy travelling, especially meeting ‘the locals’. Verrrrrrrry keen on food and have not yet eaten English food whilst abroad. Always travel independantly having bought the flight at auction. Visited recently Dahab, Rhodes, Corfu, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus x 3, Morocco x 2, Grand Canaria, Dominican Republic x 2, Scotland, Wales, France, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Dubai, the Emirates, Germany and most recently Thailand and Laos.

Folk has put up with me for 38 years – and does not seem like a day.

Keen gardeners and have a Mediterranean garden (with a well dated pre -1590) and a pond full of frogs, newts and fish. The kitchen garden produces wonderful salads. We also have a “secret garden” that is a perfect haven for an evening drink. Our out-door grapes are heavy croppers (made into marmalade this year) as are the passion fruit, the fig tree is a heavy cropper, had our first kiwi fruit in 2090. Our olive trees bore their first ripe fruit in 2006 – we have three types, native, oil producing and the giant green ‘nibbles’ olives. Resident animals = hedgehogs, shrews, frogs, toads, newts, bats. Latest family hobby is making stained glass windows for our home.
