Well you know how it is, no one wants to spill the beans all over the Internet… So I will tell enough, relevant to my coming trip to Central America… this March 2013! – NIC, CR, PAN & COLombia, where I was born but never been there since 1968. I am considering retiring to one of these countries. At one time CR was my first choice but as we all know it has become more expensive through the years so I am considering the others and it could might as well end up being Colombia… I don’t know, that is what the trip is about…
I will be “backpacking” though, or is it “Flash-packing” now? lol … I know the whole experience will be much cheaper and way more fun this way… I want to do some of the tourist things like all backpackers, but also to get a feel for the local culture and try to imagine what it would be like to actually LIVE there…. so in that sense my trip will be different. Luckily I speak Spanish and know the culture… so it should be much easier for me adjusting to it. The question will be “am I too gringo” already to adapt / like this style of living?…. well, I’ll find out that too.
Then it comes the mechanics of the actual trip… The backpacking equipment, the electronics, the phones, SIM cards, travel insurance, Hostels, banking and so on and so forth. That is what I am concentrating my energies on as the trip nears this March 5, 2013. I am arriving at SJO airport, via Spirit at 1:30 AM!!!… and I don’t even know where I will be staying that night at all.
I will be traveling for close to 6 months, Mar 5 — Aug 29, about 170 days all together. Of which I expect to allocate roughly 2 months to CR, 1 month or less to NIC, 1 month or less to PAN and the rest, about 2 months plus to COL. I heard of the sailing ships option from PAN to Cartagena Colombia and it sounds fantastico!!.. and I will probably do that… can’t wait…
So ANY Ideas, advice, tips, links, etc etc etc will be welcome.
