A
Zucca
Owned by an Italian mama who saunters around her restaurant with a certain forceful alacrity. High-quality dishes like beef carpaccio, homemade pasta and osso bucco will have you wagging your hands like they do back in the Bootland.

Pizza De'lic
A scatter of outdoor tables orbits the brightly lit kitchen. Delicious pizzas are constructed atop thin crunchy crust.

Pavillon de Jade
You hardly ever see any diners at this no-frills Chinese joint above a faded supermarket, but the proud owner refuses to sell his land to the hungry developers of the Balise Marina project (smart guy!). If the owner caves, chances are high that you'll find this local haunt across the street from its original location.

Niu
Niu employs a minimalist design scheme befitting the hippest address in London or New York. Fresh sushi and sashimi is the name of the game, though continental treats, like spring rolls and fried rice, further spice up the menu.

London Way
London Way looks a bit worn out, though locals prefer it to Kaddy Plus as it has a wider selection of items.

Le Cabanon Créole
Friendly service and spicy spins on Creole home cooking make this family-run place a perennial favourite. There's a limited range of daily dishes, such as rougaille saucisses (spicy sausages) and chicken curry; specials, like lobster or whole fresh fish, can be ordered in advance. It's best to reserve in the evenings as there are only a handful of tables. Delivery available.

La Madrague
Adorned with loads of stylish wicker and sleek wooden slatting, this feels like a poolside restaurant at a posh resort, yet there's no hotel in sight. Only the locals know about La Madrague – it's hidden at the end of the dirt track that splinters off from the entrance gate to the Tamarina golf grounds. The menu features an assortment of standard international dishes (think club sandwiches and lamb chops), but the real draw is the inviting infinity-edge swimming pool bedecked with shimmering dark marble. While away a sunny day under the shade of a coconut palm and when you're ready for some sand, simply scamper down the stairs to the semiprivate beach below.

La Bonne Chute
Don't be dissuaded by the petrol-station-adjacent location, La Bonne Chute has built its reputation around its flavourful dishes and attractive garden setting. From venison and beef to steamed fish and crab, the kitchen always seems to get it right. And don't forget to save room for one of the homemade desserts.

Kaddy Plus
It is worth swinging by Kaddy Plus for the surplus of goods sold from a small boulangerie (bakery) kiosk just before the main entrance (to the left, under the Lavazza sign).

Cosa Nostra
Two things make this popular pizza joint famous: the whisper-thin crust (you'll swear that you're just eating toppings) and the turtle-speed service (you'll think the servers went back to Italy to fetch your slice).
