Lonely Planet review

Mauritius' oldest resort shares the same management as Sugar Beach next door, but there's a completely different feel here. Rather than a colonial manse theme, La Pirogue opts for a charming fishing village vibe with semicircle clusters of adorable hut-villas arranged along the 500m of spectacular sandy beach. The resort was built around the same time as the Sydney Opera House and if you look carefully you'll notice that the thatch roofing is arranged in a similar fashion to the trademark cavalier helmet-like roofing on the iconic opera house. To some, it may feel like the resort is starting to show its age, but to most visitors, La Pirogue represents a classic paradigm of Mauritius' beachside hospitality.

Location. La Pirogue is located on the beach in Flic-en-Flac, close to Flic-en-Flac Beach, Tamarina Golf Club, and Barachois Shopping Center. Other points of interest near this all-inclusive resort include Casela Nature and Leisure Park and Cascavelle Shopping Mall.

Resort Features. This resort offers both all-inclusive and room-only rates. Meals and beverages at onsite dining establishments are included in all-inclusive rates. Charges may be applied for dining at some restaurants, special dinners and dishes, some beverages, and other amenities. Dining options at La Pirogue include 5 restaurants. 3 bars/lounges and a beach bar are open for drinks. Room service is available 24 hours a day. The resort serves a complimentary breakfast. Recreational amenities include an outdoor pool, outdoor tennis courts, a fitness facility, and a children's club.
