You can't go wrong with any of the restaurants in Chinatown, but this one is a favourite for its commitment to high-quality dishes. The atmosphere is a bit lacking, but then again when has an inner-city Chinese restaurant ever been featured in a design magazine? They do set menus for groups upon request.
If the age-old rule that a good Chinese restaurant is full of Chinese diners applies, then First is a winner. Packed with large family groups enjoying vast feasts of delicious Cantonese cooking, this is one of Chinatown's finest and prices are extremely reasonable for the quality of the fare.
Excellent Shanghainese treats. Hands down the best place in Port Louis for dim sum lunches (on Monday, Thursday and Sunday), with lunch and dinner buffets on Fridays and Saturdays. Try the half Peking duck for a reasonable Rs 600.
Belle Mare & Palmar
This roadside restaurant does OK seafood dishes, local fare such as octopus in saffron and a range of Chinese dishes. Nothing to write home about, but easy on the wallet and handy if you're driving down the east coast.
