Apparently unchanged since WWII, this 1841 building is gracefully authentic.
Tenom was closely involved in uprisings against the British in 1915, led by the famous Murut chief Ontoros Antonom. Off the main road is the memorial to the fallen wariors.
A Peace Park/Surrender Memorial west of the island at Layang Layangan commemorates the place of Japanese surrender and has a Japanese war memorial. It's in a pleasant garden on the seashore. A taxi here will run around RM25.
