Colonial Malacca
Blog: ContemporaryNomad - 6 July 2011
A rather big name from the standpoint of colonial history, little Malacca is actually far smaller than its less known brother Penang. Despite its diminutive size, the little town has a long history and a certain flair derived from its time as the colonial hot potato that bounced from Malay to Portuguese to Dutch to [...]

Blog: Uncommontravel - 15 April 2010
We’re leaving Singapore this morning. Taking a bus into Malacca, Malaysia, taking a coach rather. Taking a luxury massage coach to be exact. The only way to travel, apparently. To be honest I have no idea what to expect, no-one in my party does. I mean, a massage coach?

Blog: The Amazing Dawdle - 23 February 2010
Singapore We ended our stay in Aussie very pleased with the country, and had stayed in a few favorites up the coast towards Brisbane at the end of the trip. However, before we left, there was one huge colossal nagging issue at play in our minds: Where in the World is Christy’s Passport? Yes, lucky for Christy, she had to apply for an Indian visa, and at the time of our airline booking, we simply had not researched visas that far ahead. Ooops...

Food and history in Melaka
Blog: nateniale { reflections on my travels and everything else I love } - 13 February 2010
My earliest memory of Melaka, or Malacca as it was spelt in English, was from my history lessons during my school days. According to a legend, Parameswara, a prince from Palembang, was resting under a tree while hunting when he saw a deer pushed a dog into a river in self-defence. He was so impressed by the courage of the deer and took it as a good sign to create an empire in that area.

Blog: Street Foodie - 27 November 2009
Years ago, whilst en route to Australia, I had one of the most memorable eating experiences of my life aboard the wonderful Malaysia Air. It was around midnight UK time, but the cabin crew had yanked open the window shutters to the rising sun and announced breakfast. On the menu was Nasi Goreng, an Indonesian and [...]

Road Trip to Malacca
Blog: lechua photography - 15 October 2009
On my first day of ‘freedom’, I set off on a road trip to Malacca. Packed into 6 cars, we made our way to attend a fellow ex-colleague’s wedding in Muar, stopping overnight in Malacca to explore the endless list of food destinations all planned out by the food enthusiasts. In between the many makan [...]
