Cooking Courses with the Chef Association
Penang has no organised cookery courses but you can contact the Chef Association to see if any of their chefs would be interested in giving a lesson or two. The earlier you get in touch with the association, the more likely you are to find an instructor. Prices are not set and will need to be agreed upon by you and the chef and will depend on the venue, menu, group number and number of lessons.

Cookery Course - Hotel Equatorial
The best souvenir you can bring home from Melaka is the cuisine. The Hotel Equatorial runs the only cookery course in town, which is available both as part of a hotel package and as an independent course. Instruction in Nonya cooking is given at the hotel's Seri Peranakan Restaurant by its head chef, Bong Geok Choo.
The hotel package, the 'Wok and Walk', includes a one-night stay in a 'superior' room, one buffet breakfast, one Nonya set lunch, one buffet dinner, two cooking workshop sessions, a walking tour of historical Melaka and a souvenir cookbook. It's quite a bargain when you consider that the published price of a one-night stay in a superior room without all the ex…

For something different and to explore the fascinating landscape around Melaka, join Alias for his popular three-hour bike ride through 20km of oil-palm and rubber-tree plantations and delightful kampung communities surrounding town. The tour can leave at either 08:00 or 15:00 any day of the week as long as there are at least two people. There aren't any big hills and water is supplied.

Yoga Classes and Accreditation at Trisula Yoga
Yogis and yoginis come from all over the world to get their teacher training and certification at Trisula Yoga as it's one of only four yoga schools in Malaysia that is a registered yoga school (RSA) with Yoga Alliance USA and Asia Yoga Alliance India. Certification is in 'nondenominational' hatha yoga and generally takes six weeks. Occasionally the school also runs reiki training courses so check the website if you're interested.
For regular lay-person classes, call or email for times (which change regularly); pilates is also available.

Local Tour Guide - Peck Choo
A recommended local tour guide is party-loving Nonya guide Peck Choo, who knows every nook and cranny of Melaka better than just about anyone. She can lead tours on anything from short historic walks to several-day jaunts around the province and beyond. She is buddies with most of the other guides and can help set potential clients up with another guide or a specialist if need be.

Eye on Malaysia, Melaka
This giant gondola-style Ferris wheel spins very slowly for about 20 minutes. At the time of research the Malaysia International Space Adventure interactive museum (which will include a 4D theatre) was under construction at the site, and a sound and light show on a water screen (that will be highlighted by a fireworks show and water-ski performance) was in the planning stages.

Rates run from around RM100 to RM350, more for multiday treatments.

Of course if more people ask, classes will become more regular. Ask for Dawn Tan.
