It is advisable to cash your cheques in Mersing before coming to Tioman, although travellers cheques can be cashed at the Berjaya Tioman Beach, Golf & Spa Resort. There is a moneychanger in the airport building, but rates are poor.
Bank Simpanan Nasional (Tekek) Has an ATM (open from 6am to midnight) that takes Visa and MasterCard.
