I am planning a trip to Malaysia and Thailand in May.
As we do not have much time (10days) but want to see a lot (arrival day plus another day in KL, just a quick one) then some amazing beach plus ending in BKK for 2 nights.
So Langkawi is quickly reached by flight from KL, however, I am not sure if it is really nice? We want a really nice beach hotel (50-70usd incl breakfast) with pool...which is seclude but still not far away to walk from some shopping, street food & restaurants...…
I’m looking to hike Mt. Kinabalu at the end of April (2D/1N). I emailed Sutera Sanctuary Lodges to make reservations and got a reply that “climbing slots” are fully booked in April and the earliest date available is June 2017. I tried calling the office 6088-487-466, but no one picked up the phone.
Has anyone had experience with booking a climb and accommodations with Sutera while they were in Kota Kiinabalu or another place in Malaysia and can advise me: Do the reservations book up this early…
Advisable? Or too hot? (I am from southern Europe.)
A couple of weeks. Kuala Lumpur and eastern coast (some relax at the sea), just to begin. Then maybe back late autumn.
Where to go (beautiful, simple places, good but nothing plush: for an old male traveller)?
(I have visited by myself around 50 countries in the world, almost all of them in that area.)
Suggestions, please? MTIA
Hi! I was hoping you guys might give me some advice :).
Early May 2017 I'm going to Borneo (Sabah) with my husband for a week. I had my mind set on going to the Borneo Rainforest Lodge (Danum) for 2 or 3 nights, but I can't justify a $1,000 per night stay (no matter how spectacular). So after a lot of reading I still find it hard to make a proper itinerary. How do you get to places easiest? Plane, car hire? I'm not a big fan of fancy hotels, but prefer to do things the way the locals do it.
We will have a 2 nights, one full day in Kuala Lumpur, where we have never been before.
Our interest are walking around, checking Chinatown, perhaps Little India, taste local food (is Jallan Alor the best place>)and to see Petronas towers – probably not to visit them, just to see them from a distance. Not interested in shopping and bar scene.
I am having a bit of hard time to narrow down what part of town to base ourselves. We land internationally at 17:30, this means, we have to go…
Hi, I've read and used lonely planet countless times but this is my first time posting as I couldn't find the exact answer I need for my questions.
My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to semporna for diving in mabul and preferably sipadan too in may/June. Will probably be doing a 4d3n trip.
Neither of us have a PADI diving license and we are planning to get it done during the trip.
My main concern is if it is worth doing the course there. I've gotten a few replies from hotel/tour…

Roughly how much for a taxi from Bukit Bintang to Sungai Besi, have it wait a couple of hours, then back to Bk. Bintang? I'm told taxis are hard to find in Sg. Besi and public transport non-existent. Of course, if anyone knows different...
