Dear TTers

I'm heading to KL next week and will be there over Eid / Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

How many things will be closed (I assume all museums, government offices etc.) but will shops, restaurants, private businesses also close? and will museums reopen on Friday (8th July) or will they take a long weekend? I note that Friday is a 'Special Holiday' but only in Penang ((http://publicholidays.com.my/)).

Thanks as always.

Hi, I land in Kuching around 10:30am. Is it still possible to travel up to Bako National park at midday?
I've only got 2 weeks so would of preferred first night there.
Is the park good enough to justify 2 nights there? at the moment i was just going to do 1 overnight with my limited time
thanks

Hello!!

Right now we are staying at the Belum rainforest resort and we are interested in going to Cameron Highlands, Taman Negara or the Perhentian islands (we don't care in which order). We would like to know which is the easiest place to go from here by public transportation or shared van!

Thanks a lot in advance!

Homestays?

I'm hoping to take a trip to Malaysia and am curious if anyone has done a homestay there?
I found this really great site, I Like Local (https://www.i-likelocal.com/), that lets you book both homestays and experiences with locals and I'm very interested in booking. Before I pull the trigger, I wanted to see if anyone had some advice based on past experiences?

Thanks!

Hello all!
Me and my girlfriend are considering to travel to Malaysia and Borneo for roughly 3 weeks between the end of July and the beginning of August (we are a little bit late since we haven't booked yet our flight tickets) and I would like to have your opinion on the following potential itinerary for our trip, on what to add or to remove according to you, taking into account that we would like to have a mix between beautiful beaches, wildlife and local cultural aspects.

Kuala Lumpur – 2…

Hi all,

Anyone having experiences in booking hostels in august for perhentians kecil (we prefere long beach)? All online websites show that everything is booked, cannot imagine this is true... Or is august the most populair season of the year to go to the perhentians?

Me and my boyfriend are meeting some friends there, which makes us with six in total. No rooms available on the perhentians.. I also searched for two person rooms - also nothing found.

Are we too late or is it just not usual to…

Hello! Selamat pagi!

We are visiting the Perhentian Islands this July and we are totally messed up when it comes to finding accommodation there.

We found difficult to contact the hostels there via email but the most expensive ones. Once we reach some hostels the most part of them only offer accommodation+activities so you get scuba or snorkel tour included. I post an example:

Hostel 1 (no activities, just accomodation)

Dear all,
I was wondering if some more seasoned travellers to SEA (especially malaysia/borneo) could take a quick peak at our itinerary. We are 2 guys hoping to do some beach, culture, mountain hiking, nature and relaxing (probably at the end). I have 2 extra weeks at the end to spend more time on Bali and go to Lombok but one of us has to return to work hence why we are trying to get more into this leg of the journey. We may need to cut something e.g. Mulu national park or Mt Kinabalu to make…

I've seen it written many times that July is the busiest (and most expensive) season in Borneo.
I've also seen it said that August can be the best time to visit.

Can anyone with experience confirm how prices are during these two months. Would first half of August make a significant difference for us than second half of July?

Thank you....
Tony
