Know Your Gestures
Blog: Desperately Seeking Root Beer - 23 April 2010
Our van twisted up the mountain through tea plantations on the road to Tanah Rata. It was gray and drizzly, and in the dry warmth of the van I felt sorry for the two soggy backpackers we passed trying to hitch a ride in the opposite direction. They were obviously Westerners: ginormous backpacks, shorts, bandanas, thumbs up in the air trying to flag down a ride as cars hurtled by.

Review: First-time in Tune Hotel, KL
Blog: First-time Traveler - 8 March 2010
When I thought of Kuala Lumpur, what instantly entered my mind was the Petronas Tower. Because of its prestige, I envisioned KL as an urbanized metropolis. But its distance from its international airport totally took me by surprise. It was a good thing that two of my companions had been to this sprawling city before, [...]

Blog Update: Kuala Lumpur (fish spas!), Penang Island & Singapore Encore
Blog: The Amazing Dawdle - 4 March 2010
Kuala LumpurAfter seeing both Singapore and Melaka, we were eager to discover more of the Asian big cities' cultural wonders. We hailed a fixed price cab from the Renaissance (about $ 5 USD) and a few blocks down, Christy realized she had left one of her two wedding bands on the floor next to where she had laid out her clothes. HOLY CRAP! We flew back. Luckily, Marcus always has a spare key in his wallet (after checkout), and Christy was able to bolt upstairs and access the room and get the ring. Phewh.

Cameron Highlands, Malaysia My last two days in Perth came and went as I made my way back up north to Malaysia on February 24. Since I wasn’t planning on traveling through Malaysia on this trip, I was completely clueless as to what the country had to offer. I flew into the capital Kuala Lumpur and made [...]

Thaipusam or how I ended up as part of a ceremony celebrating the Hindu God of Death
Blog: Drifting Aimless - 30 January 2010
To my left I was trapped in behind the barrier, to my right an enormous throng of people carrying milk urns on their heads. Behind me, fast approaching a phalanx of gibbering screaming devotees dancing in trance. In my eagerness to get a good photo Id somehow found myself trapped inside the ceremonial procession. I [...]

A Lighter Wallet in Kuala Lumpur
Blog: Around The World On The Toilet - 27 January 2010
by Nick Having left Sri Lanka earlier that day it was a slight culture shock stepping into the modern frenzy of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital city. With Air Asia offering dirt cheap rates around the region Kuala Lumpur, or simply KL, is a stop on just about all itineraries through south east asia and was our home for two nights while we waited to board another Air Asia flight to Manilla, Philippines. The good deals stop there and staying in such a modern capital will leave travel budgets a little worse for ...

Blog: Drifting Aimless - 22 January 2010
Many thanks for all the kind emails about my motorbike accident, they were very nice to read indeed. But the crash was fairly minor and could have been far far worse, at this stage Ive almost healed up bar a couple of cautionary reminder scars. Luckily, since the bike shop wouldnt sell me any insurance, [...]

Weekend trip to KL (19-20 Dec)
Blog: nateniale { reflections on my travels and everything else I love } - 5 January 2010
Today is one of those days when I just felt the itch to write, but not sure what to write about. So, I decided to write about the trip I took after Turkey - a weekend trip to Kuala Lumpur (or KL as we call it). It was for my colleague's wedding on a Saturday evening. I do not have any photos for this trip as all the photos were taken by my boyfriend, and I do not have a copy yet.

Blog: First-time Traveler - 4 January 2010
Watching travelers in an airport coffee shop while waiting for my flight, I couldn’t help but wonder what 2010 has for me when it comes to traveling. Of course, 2009 was a good one. I have covered almost 20,000 miles, visited four countries, and enjoyed several beaches and landmarks. It was my first time to cross [...]

Blog: PassportChop.com Travel Blog - Reviews, Travel Experiences - 4 January 2010
Putrajaya, a planned city located just south of Kuala Lumpur, is the new federal administrative centre of Malaysia. Several Government offices have re-located there to gain relief from the overcrowding and congestion of Kuala Lumpur, which is Malaysia’s largest city. However, Kuala Lumpur still serves as Malaysia’s national and legislative capital for now.

12/12/09 – 12/13/09: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Wait, did we ever actually leave the States? 12/11/09: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia When you think of Kuala Lumpur, what do you picture? Before yesterday I pictured a city full of koalas. My Malaysian accommodation

Part of travelling is deciding where you are going to stay. Obviously this is influenced by how long you’re travelling. Since I don’t travel for more than 2 or 3 weeks these days, I can go for slightly nicer places than when I used to go to India for 3 months at a time.
