Lonely Planet review for Jln Alor
KL's biggest collection of roadside restaurants sprawls along Jln Alor, just north of Jln Bukit Bintang. From around 17:00 till late every evening, the street transforms into a continuous open-air restaurant, with hundreds of plastic tables and chairs and rival caterers shouting out to passers-by to drum up business.
Most places serve alcohol and you can sample pretty much every Malay Chinese dish imaginable, from grilled fish and satay to kai-lan (Chinese greens) in oyster sauce and fried noodles with frogs' legs. The best way to experience the food street is to stroll along looking at the signs and the dishes on the tables to see what takes your fancy.
Stalls to look out for include: 1+1, good for 'drunken' chicken mee (noodles) with rice wine, Hong Kong dim sum and wantons; Wong Ah Wah, good for spicy chicken wings, grilled seafood, tofu and satay; and the unnamed but ever-popular frog porridge stall - you can choose to have 'spicy' where the frogs legs are served separate or 'non-spicy' where they're mixed in with the tasty rice gruel.

Good variety of foods!
selinag recommends this,
We were here on a recommendation from a nice taxi driver who tell us to eat a laksa dish at an inside place in the middle of Jalan Alor. Thus we find out the secret places to try in this street for each "shop" is actually often 3 or more different stalls selling different foods! It was very wonderful eating here and our hotel is not so far away so we came more than 6 times!
A very wonderful place for real Malaysian and Asian food, and not expensive.

One of Asia's great eat streets
vivekw recommends this,
Jalan Alor is everything great about Malaysian cuisine: influences from India, Singapore, China, Indonesia and Thailand. It gets kicking at night, when you can sample satay and then move on to dumplings while sipping coconut or mango juice along the way.

Don't judge on looks alone!
sam195 recommends this,
This is the one place in Kuala Lumpur that you shouldn't judge on appearance. While this famous street may appear cramped and busy, while it may be open air with food sizzling away on the side of the street, this is THE place to eat some of the best local cuisine in town.
Located in the Bukit Bintang area, Jalan Alor sure does come alive at night when roadside vendors open their doors, set up their cookers, sprawl their tables out over the sidewalk and sometimes the road as well, and serve some truly fantastic food at an even better price. The food is hot, the drinks are icy cold and the price is going to make you wish you hadn't ventured into the airconditioned foodcourts of the various shopping complexes earlier in the day. Although, agreed, a little extra dough for the comfort of air-con IS worth it from time to time. However, don't miss out on Jalan Alor.
By far my favourite dish is wanton mee - soup and wantons, delicious saucy noodles on the side with barbecued pork. Many of the vendors sell this dish but my favourite came from Cu Cha Restaurant. And we are talking a couple of dollars for all this plus an icy drink.
Yet, it is not only the food that makes eating on Jalan Alor an experience. It is sitting on the street on a rickety plastic chair looking up at the balconies of local's apartments, where curious faces will be looking back. It is people watching at its best. This is where locals come to get some good grub. Families, backpackers, groups of young friends grabbing a bite to eat before heading out for drinks and dancing. You will most likely encounter a monk or two asking for a donation. They can be very persistent so have a ringgit or two handy.
So head out to Jalan Alor. Sit down on a plastic stool. Breathe in the smells - sizzling meats, garlic, durian (hey, I didn't say all the smells were good!). Slurp some noodles. Eat like a true local.
