Naviti,
Favourite hangout in Fiji

My sister Lucy and I had spent months travelling around Australia and New Zealand, before we arrived in Fiji. We explored the glorious Yasawa Islands with Steve, one of the many lovely people we’d met backpacking. This photo shows Naviti, where the three of us spent many hours perfecting our professional hammocking skills. It was taken while I sat in my favourite of the island’s many hammocks, and shows Steve basking in the golden glow of yet another perfect sunset. There was no mobile phone reception, TV or internet connection, so this was two weeks of complete isolation and relaxation – with some of the clearest and most beautiful night skies I have ever seen.

Faye Hedges, from Bristol, was on a four-month trip, visiting Asia, Australasia and the US.

Nowhere says ‘summer’ in England quite like Cornwall, where exotic plants thrive and the surf breaks on three sides along the county’s rocky coastline. Add a splash of artistic and culinary talent to the mix, and you’re all set for a trip to the southwest.
