THE TRIP
Choose your ideal Parador from any of Spain’s diverse regions – be it the dramatic mountains and coastal villages of Basque Country, the arid, exotic landscapes of Moorish Andalucía, the medieval cities and wild scenery of Catalonia or the sun-drenched beaches of the Costa Blanca.
Paradores de Turismo is a state-owned company, founded by King Alfonso XIII in 1928, that aims to restore and preserve a number of the country’s cultural landmarks. Food plays a central role at all of the Paradores, with each hotel’s menu reflecting local culinary traditions and featuring specialities from the region, alongside classic dishes originating from across Spain and Europe. Wine lists are designed to showcase provincial vintages and the better-known Spanish greats. Facilities at the Paradores include spas with comprehensive treatments, many of which use local ingredients, while two of the best golf courses in Europe are at the Parador de Saler and Parador Málaga.
A trip like this demonstrates just what value can be fitted into a long weekend. Each prize consists of four nights’ accommodation for two people on a bed and breakfast basis at a Parador of their choice (excluding Granada). Return flights are courtesy of easyJet and car hire will be provided by Europcar.
