Tokyo,
Meditative space in Japan

After a long flight from Heathrow to Tokyo, I managed to decipher the subway map and find out which train I needed for Asakusa. Leaving the station, I walked past the beautiful, but busy, Senso-ji temple. Rather than fight through the crowds of people to take a look at it, I made my way to my hostel to sleep off my jetlag. I woke later that evening and, feeling more energetic, decided to walk back to see the temple at night. The difference compared with the daytime was unbelievable. I was about the only person there and managed to snap this cherished photo with only a local couple in the midst. I wish I’d spent longer in Japan – a week just wasn’t enough.

Mark Jamieson, a traffic surveyor from Edinburgh, visited Japan on his way to Australia.
