Ha Long Bay,
Cove at first sight in Vietnam

We had been cruising around Ha Long Bay on a modern junk. The cruise had been fantastic, with great food and wonderful sights. On the last morning of the trip, we were treated to a visit to some limestone caves. As we left the caves and came back out on to the cliffs, I was greeted by this stunning view of our junk below us in the bay. The scene looked so serene – from the boats floating on the calm waters of the South China Sea to the lush, green vegetation covering the limestone cliffs. It would have been a crime not to take a photo! Even now when I look at the picture, it brings a smile to my face. I am reminded how lucky I was to have experienced such an amazing part of our world.

Mark Stonton, from Northamptonshire, spent three weeks in the Far East.
