Filaretai Youth Hostel
Lonely Planet review
A recent renovation has provided a few additional rooms and a much needed dose of polish to this chilled-out, friendly hostel in Vilnius' artsy Užupis district, about a 15-minute walk from Old Town. You'll find the shiny new dorm rooms on the second floor.
Downstairs there's a spacious common room with big black couches, cable TV, stereo and a computer with Internet. If you're looking for a bit more privacy check out the good-value 2-bed dorm rooms. Affiliated with the Lithuanian Hostels Association, Filaretai features less noise and less boozing than the more centrally located hostels. Bed linen is provided for free and you can hire a towel for next to nothing. Use of the washing machine and dryer costs per load. The kitchen is small but has everything you need for self-catering. They prepare breakfast for large groups only (at a cost). There's also a fee to hire the lockers, but use of the hostel's bright pink bikes is free for guests in the warm months. With the expansion there are now 89 beds in Filaretai, to go with seven showers and eight toilets.
