Travel Tips
Lanzarote -Getting To/From the Airport: Do NOT attempt to leave the airport on a bicycle, only exit onto motorway. (We got caught and sent back to airport. Had to disassemble bikes, rent 2 taxis (1 per bike) which took us 500m to the nearest motorway exit).

I recently visited Playa Blanca in Lanzarote, and there is NO tourist info office there any more!

Scams and Warnings
Los Cristianos in Tenerife: An experience we had as a family party with small children had was with a group of males working sunbeds at Las Vistas beach, they were urinating and making masturbating actions against two girls aged 11 and 13 years. When challenged they became extremely aggressive towards adults in the party, including bringing along some reinforcement hooligans from another area of the beach. They actually became quite aggressive and tried to pick fights with both female and male adults in the group, and we were followed by them threatening us as we left the beach. I reported their conduct to a lifeguard and was told that my complaint was one of many similar! A further scam we experienced was in exchange booths at Las Vistas seafront (especially one on beach side close to a tunnel). Advertised on large window posters was an exchange rate of €1.43 euro to the pound and 'no commission'. When money was changed up, we received €1.1. per pound. When we challenged this, we were shown a piece of paper in non English, with figures of £3600 written at the top. We were told 1.43 applied to changing above this figure. The female running this booth refused to exchange our money back. Several people on my return flight mentioned similar experiences at Las Vistas exchange booths.

Gems, Highlights & Attractions
Last spring (March 2005) we went to the Canary Islands, as usual (for us) around this time of year. We went to El Hierro for the first time. An unforgettable trip in many ways. Our stay â??at the end of the worldâ?? is something we wonâ??t easily forget. El Hierro is a small island but has an overwhelming diversity of landscapes. We were very impressed. The place is really worth a week of your time. The major roadworks in and around Valverde had just finished when we arrived. The results are nice. Nevertheless Valverde remains a sleepy town. Thereâ??s much more to do in and around Tigiday & Frontera in the El Golfo region. But one doesn't come here for discos & nightlife.
