Travel Tips

Worth visiting east of Ghadames are the salt lakes. Excellent for a swim in the sweltering heat. I was told by my Libyan friends they are about 50kms from town.
Cathie Hutchison, UK (Aug 05)

There is a small beach on the coast in Sabratha, near the Main Hospital. Next to the beach, on the road, there is a fish market where it is possible to buy fresh fish or octopus very cheap (3-8LD for 1kg, depending on the sort). The beach itself is about 1km from the Ancient City, which is clearly visible from the coast. Walking along the beach towards the Ancient City, one can see a new villa painted green. Upon the hill, next to the wall that surrounds the villa, there are some excellent preserved Roman mosaics and remains of Roman houses.
