Lonely Planet review

This hotel is simply the best Beirut summer option. While a couple of other hotels also have sea views, similar service and comfort levels, the Riviera has the advantage of having the best (and most lively) hotel beach club in Beirut.

This 50-year-old hotel is popular with returning Lebanese expats who come for the nostalgia-value - the beach club was the place to be seen in the heyday of the 60s, and is still very buzzy during summer. This extremely comfortable hotel has a French feel with its bold striped wallpaper and fabulous faux antique furniture. They 'refresh' the paint and carpets every year, and the hotel was about to undergo major renovation when we last visited. There is wi-fi in the public areas and plans are afoot to install wireless access in all rooms. The Seaview rooms are highly recommended, and the Junior Suite - with its double balconies - is the best way to experience the nostalgia of the decadent '60s.

Room service is available 24 hours a day. The hotel serves buffet breakfasts (surcharges apply). Guests can enjoy a complimentary evening social on select days.
