You'll find no more rustic place in Sigulda than this idyllic retreat set next to a pond on the national forest's edge. The rooms are pine-fresh with plenty of pale wood furniture, cheerful quilts and curtains.
Sigulda's institutional, cheap, pack-'em-in-and-let-'em-sleep hostel is located right next to the popular Kakīsu Trase ski area on the west edge of town. Half of the building doubles as a student dorm for part of the year.
The Santa's a bit out of the way but roosts in a picturesque and bucolic spot overlooking a pond 1km (0.6mi) south of the Rīga-Cēcis highway. The immaculate, well-designed and plenty-large rooms are a real bargain.
Set in the shadow of the huge radio tower on the eastern fringe of town, Vejupe looks uninspiring from the outside and not much more sophisticated from the inside.
This boutique hotel in a brick mansion oozes class inside and out. Each of the spacious rooms is meticulously designed according to a different theme - choose from Alaskan, Mexican, Mayan and more.
Friendly, bright, cheery, fun - name your upbeat adjective and it probably applies to this combo guesthouse/hostel.
This bizarre complex centred around a 19th-century manor house defies categorisation with its robust mix of dorm rooms, trailer-style living, camping and the occasional crusty old private room.
This new place has immaculate rooms with bright walls and sturdy furniture. The rooms are a bit cramped, and were rather hot when we stopped by, but the central location and on-site bar and restaurant (Kaķu Māja) make it a decent find.
Aparjods' location just off the highway isn't ideal unless you have your own wheels, but other than that this upscale lodge is exquisite.
