Lonely Planet review for JoMa Bakery Café

JoMa is the first-choice lunch stop for many expatriate workers in Vientiane, partly because the large and stylish café is a good place for meetings but mainly because it does a brisk trade in delicious pastries, sandwiches, quiche, muesli, fruit, shakes and coffee. Wi-fi is available for US$2.50 an hour.

    Wifi is now free

Great menu including a hard-to-find Rueben sandwich. Wifi is now free but not as good as Scandanavian Bakery's 3 connection choices. They do decent bacon and egg on a choice of bread/ soft baguette.

Great staff, fast service, newspapers, free wifi, kids area

    janetvientiane recommends this,

Both branches are consistently welcoming and provide good quality food to eat in or take away. The new branch past Sengdara towards Phonthan watertower has a dedicated children's play room with a door so small that adults have to crouch to get through - a huge novelty for Vientiane, and great fun! They also deliver.

    Ah, JoMa

    speedytee recommends this,

Each morning of my stay in Vientiane was greeted with an iced coffee from JoMa's bakery. An ever popular cafe, with travelers and natives alike. The cafe boasts a modernity that is akin to home. A wide selection of sandwiches and pastries intrigue each visitor. Being the festive season of Christmas, we decided to partake in the cranberry-turkey sandwich (complete with stuffing!). A bit on the small side, but a delight nonethless. After a year away from home, I was happy to see "Nanaimo Bars" on display. The Canadian treat was both a tear-jerker and delicious. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Their English skills are commendable. JoMa's cafe is a welcomed treat for any western traveler to feel "at home". Although JoMa's is a tad on the pricey side, you pay for the atmosphere, the conversation with staff and the slice of home that can be so desired when traveling...

    JoMa Bakery

    agalardi recommends this,

This contemporary café exceeded my expecations of Laos. The atmosphere, service and food were all of very high level. Price was a bit high for backpackers going though South East Asia. Definitely worth a stop if passing thtough Vientiane.

    Loved this place

    goanna2 recommends this,

Being a strict vegetarian has it's downside when travelling through Asia, shrimp paste is used in a lot of sauces, ruling out just about everything on the menu, but tofu, mushrooms and rice. After a few weeks the craving sets in. They wash the salads here in clean water - everything about this place is clean. The rye bread sandwich, filled with assorted salad, and mayo, was nothing short of perfect. Don't expect large servings or an inexpensive bill, prices are not far from what you'd pay back home, but I walked out feeling totally revived.
