Thai Air Asia already has flights from Bangkok to Luang Prabang.
We are going to Vientiane from Bangkok and plan on being there for a little while before heading to the next place. What should we not miss while exploring Laos?
Hello! I'm currently in Oudomsai and thinking of going up to Phongsali. It's very hot and hazy down here, and I was wondering if anyone knows typical weather up in Phongsali at this time of year? Also, does anyone know if the Hat Sa - Muang Khua boats are likely to be running at the moment?
I finish a Bangkok to Vientiane tour in mid May. My ultimate destination is Central Vietnam to meet up with friends. I am considering travelling by bus to Vietnam staying in Savanakhet for one or two nights to break the bus journey. However, I am flexible time wise. Is it worth an extra few days to travel down to the Four Thousand Islands area then into Vietnam.
I will be a volunteer teaching English for 6 weeks in Nanhang Village (Ban Nanhang) in the Naxaythong district of Northern Laos, about an hour NW of Vientiane. I have never been to Laos and am wondering if anyone has any information about the village/district itself (if anyone has been to this area) and if a weekend trip to any major areas (such as Vang Vieng) would be feasible, given that I can only be away from my village Friday afternoon-Sunday night. I will be allowed to travel…
Good evening to everybody.
Would you give me please an opinion on these two itineraries?
We are very undecided whether to visit or less Muang Khua and accordingly to extend a few days to the 4000 islands or to Pakse and outskirts.
Better abandoning the south and to make only north?
What do you recommend me?
Would we care besides that you make us know if the days 7, are 8 and 10 feasible in day with the half places or no?
6 Roma - BKK
7 Arrivo BKK ore 8:30 - Volo Chiang Rai - bus per Chiang Khong
I'm trying to figure out when to fit Northern Laos into an upcoming 7 month trip.
My pet hate is peak tourist season (I can cope with the hot and rainy seasons). I want to be free to wander as I wish without pre-booking. I made the mistake of being in Luang Prabang many years ago in peak season and it was as though The place only existed for tourists, and we were stuck with the one hotel because all others were full.
So just how busy in Northern Laos in March or April?
Hoping one of you Laos experts can help us out here, we're planning on entering Laos over the bridge from Nong Khai then when finished flying out of Vientiane to Korea. I'm having trouble figuring out a way to see the good stuff while minimizing backtracking, seems like entering near Chiang Rai might have been wiser but is what it is.
Is the best plan to go Vientiane -> Vang Vien -> Plain of Jars -> Luang Prabang -> back to Vientiane?
We can use the whole 30 days visa and like to take our…
I am planning a trip to Laos for this summer and reading the Lonely Planet Laos guide, I found out about the Tham Kong Lo cave. I would very much love to do that but the stated prices seem a little unclear. The LP guide states :
It costs 105,000K per boat for the return trip (about 2½ hours, maximum four people) and life jackets are provided. Cave entrance costs 5000K and there’s a 5000K parking fee.
Since the sealing of the road to Tham Kong Lo, Khammuan Province has put together…
