Below a link to a motorbike tour done in November 2014. Start end of tour: Luang Prabang, duration: 9 days. The simple made report contains some information to the route, preparation and chapters for the daily route with picture. You don’t need to be a hard core biker to do this route; I made it by my own.
I've done a forum search but visa information is a year old at best and still quite murky.
So like the title of the post suggests, I'd like to know if a visa on arrival can be extended, and particularly in Luang Prabang.
Looking for advice (and cost estimates) for travelling between Kong Lor Cave and Pakse. 2 adults and 2 children (good travellers, 9 and 11). Cost and length of the journey need to be considered. A private car and driver has always worked well for us in other parts of Asia but look prohibitively expensive in Laos.
What would be the best way to get from Luang Prabang to Huay Xai (except for speed boat which sounds too dangerous for me)?
Is the slow boat very scenic with exciting views, and a nice traveling experience?
Is the Vip bus comfortable?
Which way is best and for what reason?
I have searched for similar topics but I could only find one from several years ago.
In short, I am planning to go to Laos later on this year as a part of my backpacking trip. Overall I would like to spend approximately a week around Luang Prabang.
I would also like to do some 1 day trekking trips but I am not exactly sure how this works? Is there a map with available treks/trips/routes? Do you need to hire a guide/organised trek or is it possible to do this on your own (i.e. take a…
I'm planning a 3 week kayaking trip with my friend along the river Nam Ou located in Northern Laos from mid July to mid August. To plan the trip in more detail we're looking for the best topographical maps that we can get our hands on. I've seen that LP has topographic maps of the region, but I can't seem to find one to buy anywhere.
Have you any recommendations to good topo maps of Laos or just a good map of Northern Laos in general?
I'm winding down to the end of a long backpacking trip through Southeast Asia. I'm leaving Thailand tomorrow for Laos (via bus from Bangkok -> Vientiane -- it will be my first time in Laos), and I'm trying to figure out where to spend the next several weeks.
Basically I'm in a situation where I'm no longer in exciting-travel-and-sightseeing mode, instead I'm looking for peace, quiet and decent infrastructure (i.e, a/c and Internet) to work on job applications and a work project (I'm in…
I am going to bike from Vietnam into Laos at the Lao Bao border crossing. From there to Savannahket is about 250km.I would like to break my trip somewhere halfway between these two points. Are there any towns with hotels on the way?
We are In LP with a week here, and the 30 day visa so have plenty of time, and we would like to focus on the north. So my thoughts are bus to Nong Khiaw spend Some time then bus to Muang Ngoi spend some time, then up to Phongsali, then down to Muang sing andLuang Namtha, then maybe down to Pak Beng and would like to experience boat back to LP. Sooooo, does this route seem doable without too much bus time on any given day? It seems like the route from Luang Namtha to Pak Beng may be a…
