Champasak hotels and hostels
Saythong Guest House & Restaurant
English-speaking Mr Sing’s restaurant (meals US$1 to US$2) is in one of the best locations in town, and while his rooms with cold-water bathrooms are pretty basic, they’re good value.
These clean and relatively stylish double and twin rooms (some with fridge) are good value if you opt for a fan (US$5); the same room with air-con is overpriced at US$15. Simple rooms with cold-water bathrooms are US$3.
Dokchampa Guest House And Restaurant
The ultra-basic Dokchampa Guest House and Restaurant has newer bungalows north of the circle but they’re still not fantastic.
This welcoming place has several clean rooms with balconies overlooking the river. They are the best in town, though the location 1km north of the fountain circle is not. Fan rooms are US$6 and bamboo bungalows with cold-water bathrooms US$4.
Khamphoui Guest House
Just south of the circle, the simple rooms with hot-water bathrooms (in a concrete building) and overhead fans (US$3) are recommended, and the two particularly good bungalows (US$2) with cold-water bathrooms aren’t bad either.
Vong Paseud Guest House
About 600m south of the fountain circle, the Vong Paseud is popular with backpackers because of the English- and French-speaking owners, social riverside restaurant and free tuk-tuk from the ferry.
At Thavisab Guesthouse rates might be negotiable but there’s no atmosphere to speak of.
