Lonely Planet review for Big Brother Mouse
Pop into Big Brother Mouse and pick up some books to distribute to local children. Books cost 15,000 kip each and the idea behind the programme is to encourage visitors to hand out something more beneficial than candy, while promoting literacy. Run by a retired American publisher, the staff is made up of Laotian college and high-school students, all of whom contribute to the content, illustrations, and admin of the office. You can also purchase books at the night market or make a donation to support the production of new material, and the office gladly accepts volunteers when the need arises.

A wonderful experience
basa2010 recommends this,
I spent only 4 days in Luang Prabang, 3 mornings I spent at Big Brother Mouse. You can go there between 9 and 11 a.m., no need to make an appointment, just show up and you will encounter local people who would like to practice their English. The first morning I spent with a young man who just wanted to read to me from a children's book. Once he finished a paragraph, he pointed out the words he didn't understand and I tried to explain. The next day another young student who wanted to practice what he knew, telling me that he wanted to become a tour guide and therefore wanted to practice his pronunciation. He was 21 and could tell me many interesting things about the Lao culture. I can only recommend to visit this organization.

Wonderful way to contribute to Laos
tintin44 recommends this,
This is a truly worthwhile organization. It's a great idea and most interesting to spend some mornings helping young Lao students converse in English. They have many ways that you can contribute to spreading literacy in Laos
