Hello fellow travellers,
I know this is a long shot. I would love to travel with someone for a journey from northern Thailand on a boat up the Mekong with Burma to the West and Laos to the East, and into China. I understand that this is not offered commercially anymore but it is possible to ask on cargo boats for such a lift.
Is there anyone who would like to head from Thailand to China (or on the way) with me? I'm also open to advice for this journey, even being told I'm crazy.
Hi, I'm going to Laos in August. I've tried multiple times to contact the Embassy in Paris (I live in Spain and that's the closest one) to get information on visa, but had no luck.
So, I've read here that it's very easy to get the visa on arrival. However, there may be cases when you are not entitled to visa on arrival. Anyone knows what those cases are? It seems a bit risky to me to fly all the way to Laos without being sure I'll be able to get that visa...
I was thinking of visiting Laos in early August, possibly spending a few days in Vientiane and then slightly longer in Luang Prabang. Today, I happened to look up the weather situation in Laos in August and the website suggested that it was a bad month to visit because of the rains. Can anyone tell me how reliable this advice is? The same website said that despite the rain in Cambodia, it was still a good month to visit, so why not in Laos?
Please excuse this post if the information has been answered. I cant find it. There appears to be lots of posts about travelling north from Vientiane to Luang Prabang and surrounding areas, but has anyone got any up to date information on travelling south from LB and crossing into Cambodia please. Is it possible to travel along the Mekong from LP to 4000 islands in the south. If not any advise on buses. Thank You
So I'm based in Ho Chi Minh and planning to do 6 weeks on a motorbike around Northern Vietnam and Laos.
I'm going to buy a Honda Win in Hanoi and cross into Laos. Which do people think is the easiest border to make the crossing? I'm speaking in terms of the least potential for problems. I'm reading about licences and residents permits being required in addition to the blue card. This from Wikitravel:
*"Some travellers have been denied exiting Vietnam at Tay Trang as their motorbike was not…
Good evening everyone.
Could you kindly let me know if and how you can reach Sanyabuli from Nan.
In practice I'll get to Nan from BKK by plane and from there I would go directly to Sanyabuli.
How should I move?
What shifts have to do?
Arriving in Nan at 8:45 am at the airport, I can get to Sanyabuli day?
Thank you all
Hi awesome travelers,
Could anybody give me some clear answers... :-)
In November we travel to Laos for one month, my girlfriend and I want to buy two second-hand motocycle in Luang Prabang? Is the hard job or an easy job?

If you plan to visit Plain of Jars (Phonsavan)in low season be carefull not to be ripped off. We booked a tour for 400.000 kip that included the transportation to plains 1, 2 and 3 and the guide. The man on the agency told as that, if no more people sign up for the tour, we had to pay for the entrance and the food. We accepted because we wanted to be guided around. Our surprise was that there was no guide on the tour and the driver didn't speak english. When we came back we asked for…
I'm planning to apply for a Thai Non Immigrant Type O visa at the Thai Consulate in Vientiane and need some advice. I have the application form and they ask "Please specify purpose of the visit". I've spent 2 hours searching the web and still have no idea what types of visits they are likely to approve and what they are likely to disapprove. I want to get it as a prerequisite or intermediate step in getting a one year Thai Retirement Visa which they say is actually a one year extension of the 90…
