I'm planning a trip to Tajikistan & Kyrghyzstan in late April and I have 3 questions about visa & travel permits:
1) can I get a Tajik tourist V.O.A. (Visa On Arrival) at Dushanbe Airport?
2) can I get a Kyrghyz tourist V.O.A. (Visa on arrival) at Istara-Batken border?
3) do I need any special travel permit if I travel throught the northern way Dushanbe-Ayni-Istaravshan-Khujand-Osh?
I have an Italian passport.
Thanks in advance for your help
Hello, I was thinking about a trip to Kyrgyzstan in February and had two questions.Firstly, as a woman travelling alone is it safe on public transport and walking around (I have intermediate Russian language skills and liked to think of myself as a relatively experienced traveller in my youth... but haven't done much in recent years.). Secondly, at this time of year is it easy to get around and would I be able to see much in 10 days? Thank you very much for any advice you are able to give me.
Does anybody know whether there is any transport from Bishkek to Karakol on New Year's Day? Basically any "cheap" option (so bus/hitching/shared taxi) is ok.
Secondly, not on NY but later, is it possible to take public transport from Karakol to Almaty? If so, what's the best border place to cross at (Karkara is closed in the winter from what I read)? Seeing kind of conflicting sources on this when I google, some people say it's possible whereas others say go back to Bishkek and then to Almaty.
Does anybody know if Sakura Guest House is open now (end of December through mid-January)? My (older) LP book says no, but folks here in Almaty say yes. Also just heard Interhouse locations are closed, too. Is that right?
If true, what other comparable accommodations are open? Thanks.
Does anyone know whether I can get here on marshutkas?? I've read one blog post where a girl how's there on public transport to Bishkek but not sure which she took.
I can't find Issyk Ata on my maps but I know it's somewhere east of Tokmol.
Any information would be great.
Please provide info on the "easiest" border crossing to/from China. Is it the Irkeshtam Pass?
Would also like to know condition of roads (in good weather) and whether anyone has successfully tried crossing with a motorcycle that is legally registered in China. Can you get into Kyrgyz with a China plate and can you get back into China after?
Hi everyone - am looking for feedback on our Kyrgzstan itinerary. We'll be coming overland from China.
Irkeshtam Pass to Osh with an overnight in Sary Tash (2 days)
Osh (2 days)
Arsalanbob (4 days)
Naryn (1 day)
Song Kol (4 days)
Karakol (4 days inc. Altyn - Arashan trek)
That all includes travel times. Afterwards we'll want to head to Uzbekistan, so I appreciate we'll have to head back across the country - I just don't see any other way of getting the Altyn-Arashan trek in, which looks like…
