I had a 4 weeks Central asia trip (Kazakh-Kyrgyz-Tajik-Uzbek) last summer and I thought it might be useful to share some info about my trip. Here's for the first 12 days which I spent in Almaty and Kyrgyzstan from July 10th to 21st.
1: Arrived in Almaty from Montreal with layover in Istanbul around 5:30am. Shared a taxi (easy to find in the parking 2000T) to Skyhostel Almaty, which is close to a metro station (80T/ride). The view on the mountain range was super impressive. I went straight to…
Before my journey I've been looking on the internet for info about how to cross by land the Xinjiang-Kyrgyzstan border and all I was able to find was just other people's experiences. For this reason I'll leave here the details of my cross-border trip at the end of August 2016. With this post I hope to help those who plan to do the same in the future. I'm not a native English speaker but I'll try to be as clear as possible.
The Irkeshtam Pass was a fundamental step my friend and…
i wonder if you can help me with some sort of advice. Do you maybe know if it is possible to leave vehicle in the country for few months?
Let me explain: my boss is curently on a road trip with his car from Europe to China. He is planing to leave his car inside the country (Kazakhstan or Kyrgyzstan) and than fly back home. His friend would pick up his car after 5 months and then he would drove back to Europe.
Is this even possible? I have been calling everywhere and nobody knows…
We made a trip with Ak Sai for 11 days to Kirgizstan starting on the 21 of july. All was well organized except the helicopter flight to Inylchek. We were supposed to leave on the 29 of July and stay up in the mountains for 2 nights. Due to bad weather the helicopter could not fly. The 30 of July the weather was good. We were packed but understood that we had to wait. Someone with a broken leg in the mountains first had to be rescued with the helicopter. After waiting a long time we heard the…
I will be travelling in Kyrgystan in the first half of October 2016. From what I have read so far I gather that in this period yurtstays are not possible because in October the season for yurts is over. Would anyone know if there are yurts in the Song-Köl area and the Tash Rabat area that will still be open?
My girlfriend and I have just spent a mostly pleasant week in Cholpen-Ata. We attended the World Nomad Games as best we could. I rarely feel the need to extol the virtues of any experience, but the events of the past week compel me thus so.
I just thought that it was so nice to see a country, and it's Government and people, enjoy themselves so much and to really embrace their culture. Whether it was their President almost skipping to the stage to give a speech, and to laugh at his own jokes…
Im thinking about spending a week in sary mogol area in september 22-29.

Hello all, we arrived at the aftovoksal and one of the taxi drivers recommended Mira Homestay to us. As we also found it in the Central Asia lonely planet guidebook so we thought it would be a good choice. We both hate taxis so decided to walk after we called Mira to confirm she had rooms available and the prices. Dusk was approaching and as we were relying on maps.me, we got very lost. Very few locals volunteered to help us and one did speak to Mira on the phone but none of the information…
