After an unexpected 48 hour flight delay in Bamako, my boyfriend and I finally made it to Lamu on Monday afternoon. When our prop plane touched down at the tiny airstrip on Manda island, I was overwhelmed with relief to have at last arrived at the final destination of our Africa trip.

On Wednesday just before the clinic closed, my supervisor Martin said, "Oh yeah, Leeza, by the way we will be closed tomorrow through Tuesday and reopen Wednesday, because Emmanuel and I have to take the peer educators into Mombasa for a multi-day seminar."
