Hi All,

after crossing the border from Uzbekistan on August 12th, I'm planning to spend 8 days in Kazakhstan in the area near Almaty. As I read on some guides, there're a lot of possible trekking in the area nearby, like Aksu-Zhabagyly/ Kolsay Lakes/ ManshukMametova glacier.
Is there someone who went there recently who can give me advices/ tips about these places, also for giudes or accomodations? How are the connection from and to Almaty?

Thanks in advance

Serena

Hi All,

I'm planning to enter in the territory of Kazakhstan coming from Tashkent Uzbeckstan crossing the burder by food (next August).
As I read on many agency websites, Kazakhstan Tourist Visa for Italian citizen (and others) is not needed anymore. Is there someone who recently cross the border between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan who can confirm that?
Thanks in advance

Aral Sea update

No questions. Just some recent info on Aral as it was difficult to find any. We visited Aral in mid June 2016. We stayed at the Aral hotel in town which has had a bit of a facelift, new windows, coat of paint improved bathrooms. The suite was still only 7000 KT. The Altair hotel is right next to the train station and is 3000 per person inc aircon. There are also apparently 4 other hotels in town. One is halfway between the train station and town centre just back from main road on rail side…

Hello all

I have question concerning the road condition from Atyrau to Astana.

I am traveling from EU to Central Asia and planning to drive through Atyrau to Astana. Anyone can help me to let me know the road condition?

I have previously traveled from Almaty to Petropavlovsk 4 years ago and the road was good. So, is the road from Atyrau to Astana as good as Almaty to Petropavlovsk?

Thanks

Hello. Given the distances in Kazakstan do you save a considerable amount of money taking a train vs a plane on routes such ad Shyment Astana? Are trains comfortable and good way to meet locals? Also has anyone been to any national parks in the country which they really enjoyed and if so can they be visited for reasonable prices? Thx. Decided last minute to add Kazakstan

Did several day-trip hikes from Almaty given the easy access to the mountains by public transport. See this for day hiking ideas, but ignore their trail descriptions as they contain errors:

It would be even nicer to venture further into the chain, but didn't know how to do this without the help of tour operators.

Hike 1:
Medeu to Butakovka
Easy, but hiking low altitudes (up to 2000m) in Central Asia's summer makes it pretty hard. On a…

Astana Art Festival take place around 6th July when Kazakhstan celebrates Astana Day. Everything on display was free of charge, but the thing I like the most is the free intro into KZ culture with traditional singers, dancers, musicians etc all performing for in and around that big yurt between the state energy company building and the futuristic Norman Foster conical creation.

Kazakhstan National Museum is the must see in Astana.

The above is an extract from my travel journals.
