This architectural marvel, designed by Kurokawa Kishō, has no permanent collection but boasts the country’s largest exhibition space for visiting shows, which have included Renoir, Modigliani and the Japan Media Arts Festival. The NACT is also worth visiting for its awesome undulating glass facade mesh, its cafes atop giant inverted cones and the great gift shop. Building admission is free.
