Lonely Planet review for Kite Museum
In Japan, even the humble kite can be an art form. Enthusiastic, English-speaking staff can guide you and your kids through a sample of the 300 or so kites in the small but jam-packed galleries, including brilliantly painted kites based on folk characters, wood-block prints or samurai armour. None are particularly old (they’re made of paper, after all), but they’re amazing to admire nonetheless. If you’d like to design your own (¥260 per kite), phone ahead to reserve. The Kite Museum is located above the restaurant Taimeiken ( たいめいけん ), just beyond Finn McCool’s Irish pub.
