Lonely Planet review for Gonpachi

Old Japan hands deride this foreigner-friendly institution on the busy Nishi-Azabu crossing, but many of them probably had their first meal in Japan here. The first two storeys are a cavernous glam space where Quentin Tarantino shot Kill Bill, and now soba and kushiyaki (skewers) are served here. A separate 3rd floor specialises in sushi. Another location in Odaiba features kushiyaki and soba only, enjoyed with sweeping views.

    Not quite...

    ctar recommends this,

This is certainly the restaurant that was the inspiration for the Lucy Liu showdown in Kill Bill - it is not, however, where it was actually filmed - just look when you go in there - the place is way too small. The waiter there told me this as well - she also told me, however, that Quentin Tarentino comes to Tokyo at least once a year, and always comes by, gets loaded, and dances on the bar at Gonpachi. It is a great place, especially if you have a (relatively) large group, as the place is big - it's hard to take a large group around Tokyo, as most places can't easily seat more than 4 or 5 people easily - especially if you just walk in.

Waiting for a sword fight at Gonpachi

Gonpachi is a great little Izakaya resturant in Roppongi. The food is great and service quick. The lamb is delicious and a little different from the usual dishes at other Izakaya places.
With the drink flowing and the atmosphere buzzing there is a real sense you are in Tokyo and the party is about to begin. Upstairs is great to look over the entire resturant and absorb the total experience.
As the night progresses you can picutre Uma Thurman busting in and taking on the entire Lucy Lui entourage as in Kill Bill. I found myself wishing a sword fight would happen while safely sipping my ashai upstairs.
Make sure you book ahead and if the taxi driver doesn't know gonpachi just tell him Kill Bill resturant and he'll know where you wan to go.
