Lonely Planet review for Vinoteca

Quite possibly one of the hottest restaurants in the city at the time of writing, this inevitable crowd pleaser offers open-air dining overlooking the gardens of Tokyo Midtown. As these tables are some of the most in-demand seats in the capital, you would be wise to book in advance (in fact it's necessary) to ensure that you don't let down your better half.

Although true Italian connoisseurs may find fault in the slight Japan-isation of the menu, the food here is nevertheless spectacular, and the alfresco dining is arguably the city's best.

    Enjoying the new year's eve

    aavarulla recommends this,

This place is every bit as good as the lonely planet's author suggests. We felt like kings which is quite common in Japan due to a good standard in customer service. Our waiter/sommelier knew his job well and had a bit of time for small-talk as well. We had a complimentary starter (duck) and the food we ordered was absolutely to die for (I'd recommend Tagliata di manzo, grilled sliced Japanese beef). The proportions were small as in all restaurants we visited in Tokyo or maybe it was due to the fact that Vinoteca caters for a slightly more posh crowd. The locals have the habit of ordering many dishes, though which means appetizers and a couple of different main dishes.

Also the different way peple are seated in a two long winding tables/counters (all guests facing the beautiful garden) gave a nice touch to the atmosphere. It doesn't necessarily work with a big party but they have a private room for those.

I would recommend this restaurant for couples wanting to have a romantic date or friends wanting to enjoy a more luxurious evening. Not all people who were there were dressed in suits so as long as you don't show-up in flipflops, you should be ok.

Also, don't be put off by the fact Vinoteca is located inside a mall. It's a posh mall and besides, that's the way they do it in Tokyo.
