Tour description provided by Viator

See spectacular panoramic views of Tokyo at twilight with entry to the Roppongi Hills Observatory atop Mori Tower, and enjoy an authentic Japanese-style seven-course meal afterward. This Tokyo nightlife experience includes your choice of sukiyaki or shabu-shabu – popular hot pot dishes prepared with thin slices of beef (vegetarian option available) -- at Restaurant Jidaiya, an old-fashioned Japanese eatery styled after ancient traditions. Immerse yourself in Japanese food culture for an evening to remember!

Your local guide will meet you at the fifth-floor front lobby of Grand Hyatt Tokyo in Roppongi, an approximate two-minute walk from Roppongi Station, and accompany you on foot through this popular downtown Tokyo neighborhood.

When you reach the Roppongi Hills Observatory atop Mori Tower, marvel at the sweeping views of the cityscape twinkling below. Spend about twenty minutes taking in the sights from the observatory, one of Tokyo’s most popular night-viewing spots. Your guide will point out Tokyo’s landmarks in the glittering skyline, including Tokyo Tower.

Afterward, walk to the nearby Jidaiya Restaurant, a local Japanese eatery designed to recreate the atmosphere of the Edo period of old Tokyo. Take your seat Japanese-style – on the floor, but with a pit under the table to comfortably accommodate your legs. Once you’ve settled in, your guide will explain the meal and then leave you to relax and enjoy your dinner!

Enjoy a kaiseki-style (traditional multi-course) meal, including a main course of your choice: sukiyaki, a popular hot pot cuisine, or its variant shabu-shabu – both prepared with paper-thin sliced beef and vegetables cooked right at your table and served with a dipping sauce. Or, select a vegetarian option for a vegetable hot pot and meatless dishes to accompany them.

Your seven-course dinner comes with three small seasonal dishes, a five-piece assortment of seasonal sashimi (raw fish), salad, an assortment of yakitori (grilled chicken on skewers), an assortment of tempura (fried shrimp and vegetables), steamed white rice, miso soup and a side of pickles – plus dessert! (Please note: Drinks are not included and can be purchased separately.)

After your delicious dinner, head back to your hotel or explore Tokyo at your leisure (unaccompanied by your guide).

Option 1: Shabu-shabu
If you select shabu-shabu, enjoy a savory variation of hot-pot style – very thinly sliced beef cooked in a fondue dish with vegetables such as mushrooms, carrots, nori (seaweed) and onions.

Option 2: Sukiyaki
If you select sukiyaki, a sweeter hot-pot style dish typically served in winter, enjoy thinly sliced beef slowly simmered in broth with soy sauce, mirin, sake and sugar in a shallow iron pot at your table.

Option 3: Vegetarian
If you select a vegetarian option, enjoy a vegetable hot pot with a three-piece assortment of seasonal vegetables, mushroom soup in an earthenware teapot, tofu grilled on skewers and covered with miso sauce and an assortment of seasonal vegetable tempura plus salad, steamed white rice with miso soup, pickles and dessert. (Please note: the soup base is a fish broth and eggs are used in the tempura batter.)
