You can reach Uchiko by train on the JR Yosan line from Matsuyama (¥740, one hour, hourly). Yōkaichi is 1km walk north of Uchiko station, and is well signposted in English. Although it’s a pleasant enough stroll, you might want to consider taking the Retro Bus (; 43-1450; tickets ¥800; 9.30am-6pm), a 1920s English bus that seats nine and shuttles back and forth from the station. You can also rent bikes (¥500 for two hours, plus a ¥2000 deposit) from the tourist information office.
