Miyama

I am very interested in Japanese crafts-especially textiles. There's an indigo museum and master dyer in Miyama.
It's not far from Kyoto but difficult to get to. I found this excursion:

I wonder if it's better to hire a driver and car to take us or just do the excursion. Has anyone done this
or been to Miyama.

Am planning be to Japan for 10 days in early November, after a few days in Seoul. I am a woman traveling solo. I love architecture, culture, tradition, art, food and scenic beauty. I did visit Tokyo many years ago. I plan stay at some traditional hotels/inns, and maybe a couple or air BNB nights to save money so I can a splurge on someplace special here and there.

I would love your thoughts on my itinerary, train and transport, connections and accommodations.

I'm a mid 40's solo travel and planning my first trip ever to Japan probably 10-14 days Oct 1st-Oct 14th time frame. Just started reading the guidebooks but I'm thinking probably will try to do Tokyo/Kyoto/J Alps. This seems like the typical route for a first time Japan traveler who has about 10-14 days. I like history, architecture, culture, quaint cities/towns, some walking, some nature. I'm a pretty random type travel, I travel with a very loose overall plan and do things spontaneously…

Hello..here i am again with another question:(it may sound a bit stupid but i will still ask it)
I travelled alot but i never stayed in dormitory rooms.I am especially confused about this '' mixed-dormitory'' thing. Is it only for families/groups travelling together and knowing each other..or is it just random? I am not sure (as a female solo traveller )about how i would feel if i ended up in a mixed-dormitory room with a bunch of other females and males i dont know in person.Thank you!

I was hoping to finally head to Japan in October this year, though unfotunately it looks like i might have to miss out on this occasion due in part to my own poor planning. There is however the possibility of making it to Japan in Feubrary next year and I was hoping to hear of anyone's experiences in Japan during that time of year. I appreciate that there is good and bad given any month/season but Japan has been somewhere I have wanted to travel to for a long long time now and given the money…

Hi, I've skied in Japan several times and love it so much I would like to work one of the resorts for a season. I usually have holidays from mid November to end of Feburary. Im assuming I need to get a working holiday visa? The 1yr working holiday visa can only be obtained once right? I'm only going for a few months and don't want to waste it though. Would prefer to get it for when I will actually spend a year in Japan.

Hi guys,

My partner and I are planning a 4-week trip to Japan for mid-April/May next year, and just have no idea if our itinerary sounds okay? Its an insanely rough draft of our "really want to visit" places.

Any and all advice appreciated! Suggestions of other places to visit also welcomed!

12 days based in Tokyo with the following during the 12 days:
- 3 days at Disneyland (Do you suggest land or sea or both?)
- 1 day trip to Nikko
- 1 day trip to Mt Fuji

Then travel to Osaka
9 days based in…

I'm finishing the last details of my Japan itinerary for Oct and I have a 1.5 days during which I'm not sure what to do. After 4 days in Tokyo, 2 in Takayama, 1.5 in Kanazawa, 4 in Kyoto, I have 1.5 days before I have to head back to Tokyo.
I wanted to head to Hiroshima/Miyajima.
Day 13 - Kyoto to Hiroshima, O/N in Hiroshima
Day 14 - Visit Miyajima in AM, train to Tokyo in the PM
Is this feasible? How easy is it to get to and out of Miyajima?

Hi everyone!

I am leaving for Japan in just over two weeks, but I’m having a really hard time deciding whether to purchase a 7 or 14-day pass or NO pass at all. Here is our approximate itinerary (everything is fixed, except the mountains trip, for which we might rent a car, but we will travel by train to Takayama first). Could someone point me in the right direction as to where to compare fares or suggest the best possible solution?

Days 1-5 - Tokyo
Day 6 - Tokyo to Takayama by train (activate…
