The JR Ōu Main line runs north from Yonezawa to Yamagata (¥820, 51 minutes) and east to Fukushima (¥740, 46 minutes). The JR Yonesaka and Uetsu Main lines link Yonezawa with Niigata (kaisoku ¥2520, four hours) via a change at Sakamachi.
