Getting there & around
From JR Kumamoto station or the Kumamoto Kōtsū bus centre, there are buses throughout the day to either Yamaga Onsen (¥870, 70 minutes) or Kikuchi Onsen (¥820, 70 minutes). For a day trip to Yamaga Onsen, ask the driver for an ichi nichi furii joshaken (round-trip pass ¥1200). There are frequent buses Monday to Saturday (¥430, 30 minutes) between the two onsen towns.
