Next September we will travel for a few weeks in Japan. What's the best way to take out my spending money.
We have both a credit card, ATM (Cirrus). On the other hand we have traveller cheques ($) and cash ($ en Euro). Friends told me that there are just a few ATM in Japan.
Is there anayone who can help us. Thanx in advance.
Hello fellow travellers,
My partner and I are arriving in Sakaiminato by ship on August 5 and we have up to two months to spend in Japan (depending on if we manage to stick to our budget). We're planning to head for Mt Fuji, with the intent of climbing it, and then Hokkaido, to spend a bit more than two weeks driving around the island, stopping for hiking and onsen. Afterwards, we want to head down the country, south, by public transport during September before leaving by ferry to Korea. I'd…
I'm looking at travelling for two weeks, alone, in late September, thinking about flying into Tokyo, then getting the train down to Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and flying out of Osaka.
I understand that a few years back, you were unlikely to meet many fellow backpackers in Japan to hang out with. Is this still the case, or is it now fairly sociable? I don't mind the odd day alone, but two weeks of travelling totally solo would start to wear on me!
Hi all, I'm planning to go to Japan for the first time in Oct. I'll be travelling alone. From all my reading on Japan I'm not worried about security, but some sites seem to suggest that some things might only be available to groups of at least 2 people - some ryokan bookings, Kaiserslautern dinners etc. Is this true or have I misunderstood?
Hi, I can fit either a night in Tsumago or a 2nd night in Takayama into my itinerary. I like old towns, shrines/temples, handicrafts. I like looking at mountain scenery but am not a hiker. What are the attractions of each of these places, please and which would you recommend?
My itinerary is Tokyo, Hakone, [Tsumago], Kyoto, Hiroshima/Miyajima, Kanazawa, [Takayama] Tokyo.
heading to japan in sept for 23 days, have prepaid most nights accom and now figuring out best way to take my spending money. In other asian countries I have taken Aussie dollars and exchange to local money as neeeded, but my lonely planet book tells me that the exchange rate given for Aussie dollars in Japan will not be good (any points of view on this). The other option is a money card loaded with yen but exchange rate given by my bank is not so good either (about 5 yen per dollar below…
We have been in Hokkaido and western Japan (Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Miyajima. We are now in Osaka for a week then will be in Tokyo/Yokohama for a week. We wonder if there is anything particular to see in North East Honshu - Niigata, Yamagatea, Akita, Fukushima for 2 weeks. Also recommendations for Ryokans in that area.
I would like some itineraries for 14 days trip to Japan. Arriving and departing Haneda Airport.
My interest would be obviously some cultural history sightseeing, Onsen hot springs, night life, fresh fish market
and some hiking/trekking around natural reserves.
Appreciate any tips/suggestions. My first time in Japan.

I will have a three week JR pass. Is it truly worth upgrading to Green Car service or is standard JR service fine? I think I need to make a seat rez for the Green Service everytime. Is…
