  7. Osaka Crab Restaurant

    Blog: Muza-chan's Gate to Japan - 13 November 2011

Some of the many Japanese food specialties for which Osaka is renowned are the crab dishes (kani in Japanese). There are many Japanese crab menus, some of them popular overseas, too: crab sashimi, crab sushi rolls, kani-suki (crab hot-pot), charcoal-grilled crab, crab tempura…

  9. Osaka Castle's Mysterious Giant Stones

    Blog: Muza-chan's Gate to Japan - 10 October 2011

One of the most interesting discoveries I made during my visit to Osaka Castle is the special interest of the constructors for giant stones. The wall surrounding the castle includes 5 colossal stones over 100 tons and 15 stones over 50 tons! And the method of construction, how these giant stones were assembled together, is still a mystery…

  10. Japan Architecture - Gate Tower, the Skyscraper Pierced by a Highway

    Blog: Muza-chan's Gate to Japan - 23 September 2011

One of the most interesting images seen in Osaka from the Umeda Sky Building observatory was this famous skyscraper traversed by a highway, the Gate Tower Building. Interesting, there is no connection between the two structures, the highway passes through the building like a tunnel, wrapped in the noise protection walls visible in the photo. Also, the floors 5, 6 and 7, adjacent to the highway contain only elevators, stairways and machinery.

  11. Visiting Osaka, Climbing in Shitennoji Pagoda

    Blog: Muza-chan's Gate to Japan - 24 August 2011

The Shitennoji Temple was established by Prince Shotoku, son of Emperor Yomei, the 31st emperor of Japan, in the year 593. An amazing fact is that although during its history the building was destroyed several times, it was always carefully rebuilt to maintain the original design. This is one of the must see places in Osaka, and that’s not only because it is the oldest official temple in Japan. It’s because this is one of the few five-story pagodas where the access inside is allowed and you can climb right to the top… it is a unique experience!

    Blog: Muza-chan's Gate to Japan - 21 July 2011

Japan is known as a traditionalist country, but even here, in time some traditional occupations disappear. One of them is the Japanese marching band, chindon’ya, street performers advertising shops or pachinko parlors, like in this picture taken in Shibuya.

Blog: nateniale { reflections on my travels and everything else I love } - 14 November 2010

{ Japan April 2010 - Day 7 & 8 - Osaka } We reached Osaka in the late afternoon and by the time we got to our hotel, which was supposed to be less than 10 minutes walking distance from the train station, the sun was already setting. The reason? We got lost in the huge, complicated and confusing Shin-Osaka Station. Armed with a Japanese map of the hotel, we were walking up and down the stairs, walking towards various exits with the numbers shown in the map, and ended up lost in the huge station.

Blog: Living the Dream: RTW - 13 September 2010

I can't say that I am much of one for slow travel. I get impatient and anxious if I am in a city for more than a just few days. This is partly because I would rather pack more in my travel allotment, accounting for time and money, then spending more time at one particular spot.

  20. Transport in Japan (outside the JR lines)

Blog: World Travel Blog - 22 November 2009

Japan isn’t a big country really, at least if you compare it with other destinations as China, India, USA or even my home country, Argentina. Despite that I think Japan has the most extensive transportation system I have ever seen, including trains, subways, metro, tram, busses, monorail, cable cars… and they are all linked to [...]

Blog: Where is Rob? - 18 November 2009

Well originally I wasn't too up for going to Osaka. I'd read a bit about it and it didn't seem like there was much there (apart from the possibility of a day trip to Nara but we could do that from Kyoto) but Tommy was quite up for it and wanted to see the sky building so we ended up going. It turned out to be a quality few days and was just real fun. First day we went to the aquarium and I saw [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more!

Right so the evening began when at about 7 we headed to the reception to grab some food for the night. When we get down stairs we are greeted by a film crew filming this massive banquet the hostel seems to have put on for the cameras. So we grab a few plates and start talking to some of the other guests. It's was real nice and the food was possibly the nicest we have had the whole time we have [[ This is a content summary only. 23. Nara

Blog: Where is Rob? - 18 November 2009

One of the reasons we came to Osaka was the fact it is real easy to do a day trip to Nara from there. I had got talking to a few people in the hostel on the first night and they had mentioned that Nara University offer free guided tours round Nara by students and volunteers. Considering we were only going to spend a day there and the guide would be free, it was defiantly something we had to do. [[ This is a content summary only.
