Lonely Planet review for Uosue
Uosue is one of the best value Japanese places in town. It’s a traditional Kyoto-style restaurant with a clean interior and friendly proprietors. For lunch, try the wonderful nijū bentō for ¥1000. At dinner, the omakase ryōri kōsu is a great way to sample kaiseki ryōri without breaking the bank: it costs just ¥3800. It’s next to a tiny shrine – keep an eye out for the sake barrels out the front.

Tasty food and friendly atmosphere.
chechrissie recommends this,
A wonderful wee restaurant with incredibly friendly service and a nice atmosphere. I recommend the counter so you can see some of the food preparation.
Getting there will not be tough for you. It was for my friend and I until we called and the restaurant staff actually came and found us. You should take exit 3 at Shijo station on the Karasuma subway line. On the street turn left and take the immediate left and walk a couple of minutes until you find the restaurant on your left. The sign is written in hiragana.
We had the omakase 4000 yen course which included tofu, sashimi, eggplant cooked with miso and then trout. This menu will change a little depending on season. It was all delicious. You can enjoy beer, nihonshu or soft drinks as part of the meal. Sadly my friend didn't like her nihonshu so I polished off both flasks.
The staff were helpful and friendly. We had a charming evening. Please check it out.
