Lonely Planet review for Fujino-Ya

This is one of the easiest places for non-Japanese to enter on Pontochō, a street where many of the other restaurants turn down even unfamiliar Japanese diners. Here you can feast on tempura, okonomiyaki, yaki-soba and kushikatsu in tatami rooms overlooking the Kamo-gawa.

As advertised, but with different food.

Went last night. View was correct (though non smokers should remember that smoking is usually permitted in izakaya), and staff was wonderful, and her English was certainly better than my Japanese. The menu is even printed in English. However, those looking for okonomiyaki and yaki soba (we were) should know that it is not currently on the menu, though the kushikatsu and tempura are. We didn't mind so much once we started eating, as it was quite tasty, and not a bad price for a pitcher of beer. I had grilled eggplant, unagi-don, and duck skewers, my companion had the set menu kushikatsu.
