Lonely Planet review

This place is one of a kind: a Korean café in a converted old Japanese house. Dishes here include bibimbap (a Korean rice dish) and kimchi (Korean pickles). A full range of coffee and tea is also available. It's a woody rustic place with both table and tatami seating. There is no English menu but the friendly young staff will help with ordering. This makes a great stop while exploring southeastern Kyoto.

From the outside you would never know this is a "Korean Cafe" actually, I have no idea why the review says they are one - no one there seems to speak Korean, and aside from the bibimbap and the kimchi nothing else on the menu is Korean... the sign in front says they are part of the "slow food" movement but don't let that fool you~! Service is fast and you won't be waiting long for your meal. This cafe has a heavy emphasis on healthy eats and quality ingredients. Just about all the coffee or tea is organic as are the ingredients that make up your delicious meal. The location is great, right next to Keihan/JR Tofukuji station in front of the Daily Yamazaki convenience store. The atmosphere is fantastic with the old Japanese house being stuccoed in beige outside and painted bright red inside. Seating is 60-40% Japanese style and tables. A bonus in the winter, is their heated floor on the Japanese floor seating side which makes for a toasty meal! The staff were friendly and helpful though they didn't seem to speak any English. The regular menu is in Japanese/English and covers four sections: 1- Drinks: Heartland Beer 600 yen, iced coffee 430, orange juice(fresh) 530, organic coffee 400, and their "formed green tea milk with azuki beans" which tops out the drink menu at 650 yen cold or 680 yen for the hot version. I like the sweet yuzu tea... 2- Sweets: ice cream for 380-700 yen and a "Parfait" or Sundae for 900 3- Light meals, i.e. toasts: butter toast at 280 to honey cinnamon and maply syrup at 330, plus a more meal like pizza toast at 530 yen 4- meals: hot pot bibimbap 950 yen, regular bibimbap 800, taco rice 850, chicken and rice 900, curry rice 900, spanish curry hot pot 1200 yen plus a special set meal for 1500 They also have a more extensive dessert menu but it is only in Japanese, if you're feeling adventurous just point and hope for the best~!
