Hi, my itinerary includes being in Takayama on 3 Nov, thr Culture day public holiday. I'd like to know what if anything will be closed apart from govt offices - banks, different train times, for example?
Also, is anyone aware of any special events in Takayama or Shirakawago for Culture day?
Many thanks
Georgia

Hi, I'm having a hard time deciphering this bus schedule:
http://jikoku.narakotsu.co.jp/form/asp/ejhr0060.asp?fromcd=1854&dia=1&daykind=1

I'd like to know the earliest weekday bus from Shimoichiguchi station on the Kintetsu line heading to Tenkawa and Dorogawa Onsen. I'd also like to know the schedule for the bus returning From Tenkawa and Dorogawa in the afternoon. If anyone could help me translate this bus schedule I'd be really grateful.

Thanks

Hi,

I'm heading to Japan soon, and I have some random questions:

  1. I want to get an electric razor that works on the electricity in Japan; I figure the best way to do this is to buy one when I get to Japan. Where can I buy such a thing? It doesn't need to be anything fancy, it just needs to be able to get rid of my barbarian-esque beard. Do 7/11's or other such convenience stores sell electric razors? Or supermarkets? Any place you can think of in or around Shinjuku station?

  2. Do…

Hi friends...me again
Fine tuning my three week Oct itinerary. Right now I have reservations in Tokyo, Gero/Takayama, Kyoto, Kinosaki-Onsen. I also have reservations in Fukuoka and Kagoshima. But some folks say skip both of these? I think I want to go to Nagasaki but I have read some folks say to skip that too? I really would like to see some of maybe either Kyushu or Shikoku. Probably not time for both. I will have a railpass. My trip is basically city to small town to city to small town…

Next September we will travel for a few weeks in Japan. What's the best way to take out my spending money.
We have both a credit card, ATM (Cirrus). On the other hand we have traveller cheques ($) and cash ($ en Euro). Friends told me that there are just a few ATM in Japan.

Is there anayone who can help us. Thanx in advance.

Hello fellow travellers,

My partner and I are arriving in Sakaiminato by ship on August 5 and we have up to two months to spend in Japan (depending on if we manage to stick to our budget). We're planning to head for Mt Fuji, with the intent of climbing it, and then Hokkaido, to spend a bit more than two weeks driving around the island, stopping for hiking and onsen. Afterwards, we want to head down the country, south, by public transport during September before leaving by ferry to Korea. I'd…

I'm looking at travelling for two weeks, alone, in late September, thinking about flying into Tokyo, then getting the train down to Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and flying out of Osaka.

I understand that a few years back, you were unlikely to meet many fellow backpackers in Japan to hang out with. Is this still the case, or is it now fairly sociable? I don't mind the odd day alone, but two weeks of travelling totally solo would start to wear on me!
