Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims information
A walkway circles down into this peaceful, contemplative underground hall of remembrance, where there is a small central fountain. The shape of the fountain represents the time the bomb was dropped (8.15), while the water is an offering of relief to the victims. There is an adjoining room where the names and photographs of atomic-bomb victims are kept, along with evocative testimonies from survivors. The hall was built by architect Tange Kenzō, who also designed the Peace Museum, cenotaph and eternal flame.
