Ageha
This gigantic waterside club rivals any you’d find in LA or Ibiza. Mostly international DJs appear here, with Japanese DJs filling out the mix. Counterbalancing the thumping dance floors are lounge spaces and a little pool area. Free buses run to the club every half-hour from the east side of Shibuya Station on Roppongi-dōri; bring photo ID.

King Xmhu
This mammoth institution is a Susukino landmark, known for its elaborate concrete face (King Xmhu, one presumes) sculpted outside the entrance. Inside, revellers dance and drink on three floors of neon and strobe. Para-para (day-glo makeup and crazy outfits) is just the beginning.

The narrow bar Salsa Caribe has long been a gathering place for an internationally diverse crowd that usually arrives at midnight and leaves in the early hours of the morning - only after every man has danced with almost every woman in the room.

SoulFuckTry
This interestingly named bar-club describes itself as a soul disco, and that pretty much nails it. Like most clubs, it's hit or miss. Turn down the narrow street opposite Eneos gas station.

Emporium
An English owner brings a bit of Brit-club culture to Nagoya. Salarimen are known to frequent the place, but don't let that put you off. The interior and sound system are primo.

alife
This well-heeled club brings a bit of the Tokyo high life to the far north. Although the thermometer might be dropping outside, it's always hot and heavy in this cavernous joint, so dress to impress!
