    Built at the orders of shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, the Nagoya Castle was located in a strategic place, to stop the attacks coming from Osaka. The castle was finished in 1612 while the adjacent Hommaru Palace was completed three years later, in 1615. In 1930, the Nagoya Castle’s donjon (tenshu) and the palace were the first Japanese castles designated as National Treasures.

  5. Nagoya Castle's Fan Sloping Wall

    The castle from Nagoya was built by the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1612. Because a large part of the castle was destroyed in 1945, the main donjon (in the photo) was rebuilt in 1959 and the reconstruction of the castle’s former palace still continues and it will be finished in 2018.

    This brewery in Nagoya has been around since 1964 but Kirin in Japan was started by an American named William Copeland back in 1870.  It was named “Spring Valley Brewery” in Yamate, Yokohama.    Kirin name came about in 1888 and for awhile the labels were mostly in English.
